Apple Mail has over thirty built-in stationary templates that are perfect for special occasions.

The slick designs make your email stand out and they’re super easy to use.

What more could you ask for… besides instructions.

How It Works

Apple Mail templates comes in 5 categories: birthday, announcements, photos, stationery, and sentiments.

Apple Mail - 5 Stationery Types

Each template has preset fonts you can type over and many have drop zones where you can add your own photographs.

Give it a try:

  • Open Mail.
  • Create a new email.
  • Click the stationery icon in the top left hand corner of the email.

  • The stationery window opens. Now you can browse different stationary categories.
  • Click one of the templates to see what it looks like as an email. Click another and you can seamlessly switch templates until you find one you like.

  • All of the templates contain Sample Text and some contain Sample Images for you to fill in.

Sample Text

Sample header and body text can be typed over with your own personal message. The stationary will retain the correct fonts, colors, size,etc.

If you don’t like the fonts, you can change them. Just highlight the text and go to Format >Fonts in the Menu Bar.

Adding Photos

The sample images in the templates are just placeholders. If you move a cursor over them you will see the text This image is a placeholder. Drag a new image here to replace it.

Here’s what you do:

  • Click the iPhoto icon in the top left hand corner of the email.

  • A small iPhoto browser will appear. Here you can look at events, albums and pictures.

  • When you find a photo you like, drag it onto the drop-zone of the stationery template.

  • If it’s not right, you can change it by dropping in a new photo.
  • If you prefer, you can drag images directly from the Desktop onto the drop-zone.
  • Once your picture is in the stationary, you can manipulate it further:
    • Click on the image. A small white hand appears. Use this to grab the photo and move it around
    • Click on the image. A slide bar appears. Slide this back and forth to enlarge or decrease the size of the image.

  • Once you’re finished, scan up and down the card to make sure you didn’t miss anything.
  • Now, add an email address and title and you are good to go.

Once you have added your picture(s) and text, you can still switch to any other piece of stationary to see what it would look like.

If you want quick access, any templates you like can be dragged from the template window into the Favorites menu.
