The price is steep for a new iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, but…  sell your current iPhone and you can substantially offset the cost.

So… what do you need to do?

Determine The Upgrade Cost With Your Carrier

What’s important here is that:

  • You do not want to trade/give your old phone to your carrier.
  • You are not interested in any leasing program.
  • You do not want to hear about any magical new offers that will save you money.

New iPhone 6S and 6S Plus - Getting Upgrade Help

Ask – “My current iPhone is on a 2 year contract. I know my current contract isn’t complete, but I want to do an early upgrade to the iPhone 6S with a new 2 year contract. I need to know the full price for that including the activation fee”.

They will give you a dollar amount. I find it best to confirm this by calling another agent at the carrier.

Determine What Your Current iPhone Is Worth

To get a general idea of the value of your iPhone, start by going to the iPod2Sell website.

Enter your iPhone information and you will be given a current market value.

I would knock $50 – $60 off this valuation for a better idea of how much you will actually get for your iPhone.

You can also look on Craig’s List, as this is a good gauge of what iPhones are selling for.

Getting Your Phone Ready To Sell?

Once you have your new iPhone up and running and you are ready to sell your old iPhone, you need to do 3 things:

  1. Unlock The Old iPhone – Do this online or over the phone with the help of your carrier. It allows the phone to be used with other carriers. It’s easy… so don’t panic.
  2. Delete Your Data – Go to Settings > General. Scroll down to Reset, then choose Erase All Content and Settings.
  3. Remove Your SIM Card – Follow the instructions on Apple’s support page.

Selling Your iPhone

I sell on Craig’s List, because:

  • Online bulk purchasers generally offer too little for your phone as they need to resell it themselves.
  • Ebay is time consuming. They take 10%, then Paypal take another 3%.

Craig’s List is easy to join and very simple to use. It’s also safe… and here’s why:

  • Your email address is masked. No-one ever gets your real email address.
  • None of your personal information is revealed. You do not need to enter an address or phone number.

Tips To A Hassle Free Sale

  • Never sell to anyone who wants you to ship the iPhone.
  • Never sell to anyone who has a story to tell… missing limb, drowned children, wife recently fell down well, etc.,.
  • Accept nothing but cash. This is not a bargaining ship for the seller. It is the only currency on Craig’s List
  • Agree on the price over the phone. Inform the buyer that the negotiation is over. If he/she shows up with less cash, they go home empty handed.
  • Agree to meet at a local coffee shop, if it makes you more comfortable.
  • Remember, you owe the buyer nothing but courtesy. If you want to, cancel the meet or walk away.

With Craig’s List, you get to keep all the money 🙂

That’s it. If you have questions or comments please leave them below. I’d love to hear from you.

Have a profitable weekend.
