With so many alarm clocks available for the iPhone, why would you put one on your Mac?
Simple answer – Volume.
When it comes to a wake up, the tiny speaker on your iPhone can’t compete with the speakers on your Mac.
Alarm Clock 2 has been around for years. It’s got lots of great features, is easy to use, and best of all… it’s free.
Download and run the application and it appears in your toolbar. Options available include:
- Set multiple alarms… as many as you want.
- Set repeating alarms or one time alarms.
- Wake up to any song, playlist or podcast in your iTunes Library.
- Wake up peacefully with “easy wake” – an option that slowly increases the alarm volume over a period of time.
- Alarm Clock 2 can wake your Mac from sleep. It doesn’t even have to be plugged in.
- Use the spacebar as a snooze key. Hit any key to turn the alarm off.
- Set snooze duration and kill alarm time.
- App can be controlled using the Apple Remote.
- Alarm Clock 2 can be set to launch at login.
- Alarm Clock 2 also has Timer and Stopwatch capabilities.
Check it out. After many years, I’m still a happy customer. It’s a great piece of software.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. We’ll be back with a regular post this Friday, December 28th.
I absolutely love this app for my classroom. I am so upset because my mac software was updated and the app no longer works. Is there an updated version?
Hi Brittany – The latest version can be bought here for $14.95 – Aurora Unfortunately, it’s no longer Freeware. You would have to email them for compatibility info. Couldn’t find any on there site. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. – John
I liked everything about the app except that I couldn’t find any of my iTunes files in the app so I don’t know how to change the alarm sound. Can you explain how to do this?
Hi Camille – Create a New Alarm. When the dialog box appears, choose the Alarm Tab. There is a dropdown to locate the alarm/song you want. Click on this and navigate to your iTunes library to pick the song you want. All the best. – John
The “timer” function box (Alarm Clock 2) where you set time/name will not disappear from my Mac desktop. Please help.
Richard
I would try restarting the machine. – John
Hello John, I tried to find the latest version of Alarm Clock 2 as per your instructions that it can be bought as Aurora at your link for $14.95, but the link isn’t working in 2023. Can you tell me how to find it now?
Hi Vee – Unfortunately, it looks like Alarm Clock 2 is no longer available. It was 32 bit software and it was never updated to work with the latest 64 bit versions of macOS. It looks like there are a lot of other options out there to choose from though. Good luck – John
