With the iPhone 5 out less than a month, it’s not surprising that wallpapers are still a little thin on the ground.

There’s plenty of sites, but most offer the same lame designs; super-sized blades of grass, the Apple logo carved out of titanium, and women with chests that seem at odds with the iPhones sleek design.

Among all the crap… I found a few gems:

iPhone 5 Wallpapers – Almost 200 wallpapers and counting. This Tumblr blog has terrific variety and manages to keep quality high. Accepts reader submissions.

Cool iPhone Wallpapers -1

CriterionCast iPhone 5 Wallpapers – Some delightfully crazed individual at this site has taken 51 Criterion DVD/Blu-ray covers and turned them into iPhone 5 wallpapers. Perfect for movie aficionados.

Cool iPhone Wallpapers -2

iLikeWallpaper – There’s a lot of junk here, but enough decent designs to make it worth a browse.

The images above are low resolution samples. Go to the actual sites to download the wallpapers in all their glory.

If you want to make your own wallpapers, aim for a resolution of 1136 X 640 at 326 DPI.

Changing Wallpapers on your iPhone 5

Before I began this process, I found it useful to create an iPhoto Event on my Mac called iPhone 5 Wallpapers. I dragged all my wallpapers into this iPhoto event. Finally, I synced my iPhone 5 to my Mac and made sure that the iPhone 5 Wallpapers event was transferred onto my iPhone.

After this:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Brightness & Wallpaper
  • Tap Wallpaper – Select the location of the Wallpaper you wish to use.
  • Chose a Wallpaper. Tap Set
  • Chose to use it as a Lock Screen, a Home Screen or both.

Enjoy.
