At one point I was in the second camp, and I was glad some showed me. So here we are…
In most text editing software, when you hit the Return key a new paragraph is created and formatting such as a space break or indenting may be applied.
This is known as a Hard Return.
To create a non-paragraph line break or soft return, hold the Shift key and hit Return.
This places the cursor on a new line, but does not create a new paragraph or apply any formatting rules.
If you use a keyboard at any point during your day, you’ll find this useful.
