Apple just announced a new MacBook Pro, iMac, and iPad mini. The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display has been redesigned with a lighter body, OLED display, and touch capabilities.

If you’re thinking about buying a new Mac, plan for where you’ll be in a few years. Memory and storage are set at checkout and can’t be changed later. The capacity of the lower-priced model trips people up most often: it can turn out too small to hold everything from your old computer. When in doubt, go larger than you think you need.

MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ PROLED XDR Display

Apple now sells three tiers of MacBook Pros:

• MacBook Pro 14″ M6 – Announced 10/27.
• MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ – Last year’s model.
• MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ PROLED XDR Display – Announced 10/28.

Although the new models use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as last year’s, there are several new features:

Display: Apple claims the PROLED XDR is the world’s best display in a pro laptop. Tandem OLED panel provides up to 2000 nits peak HDR and SDR brightness, 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, with both P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces. ProMotion is available with refresh rates up to 120Hz.
Touch Screen: Touch sensor built directly into the display panel — not layered on top of it — reducing latency. Tap, swipe, scroll, drag-and-drop, and pinch to zoom. Apple says many apps work with touch right away because macOS turns taps into clicks. Third-party apps built for touch (Office, Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and others) arrive “later this year.”
Dynamic Island: The notch has been replaced by the Dynamic Island that’s used on the iPhone and is the new home for Siri, Spotlight and Live Activities.
Speakers: Six speakers with an all-new woofer design deliver 50 percent deeper bass.
Weight: 14-inch model weighs 3lbs, which is half a pound lighter than its predecessor. The 16-inch model is 4lbs, and that’s 0.7lbs lighter than the previous model.

Price: With M5 Pro, the 14″ starts at $2,899 and the 16″ at $3,399. With M5 Max, the 14″ starts at $4,499 and the 16″ at $4,799.

MacBook Pro is available for pre-order now and releases November 6th.
