The Jerk - Mac OSX MailSometimes you want to reply to an email and include the original attachments… and sometimes you don’t. Did you know that Mail can be pre-set to work either way?

I didn’t. This problem has irritatated me for years, but I only started looking for an answer this morning.

Better late than never.

No surprise that the solution is not in Mail Preferences. That would be too logical.

Instead, you’ll find the answer under the Edit Menu. Choose Select Attachments and you’ll see three options:

  1. Include Original Attachments in Reply
  2. Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments
  3. Always Insert Attachments At End of Message

They’re pretty self explanatory. Personally, I would stay away from option 3. unless your recipient knows that attachments will be at the end of a message. With a long message-string, it’s very easy to overlook attachments.

I hope this makes at least one reader happy. It put a smile on my face.

Have a great weekend.
