Chances are, every time you think you’re taking a photo… you’re actually taking a ‘Live Photo’.

What Are Live Photos?

A Live Photo is a short video clip, approximately 1.5 seconds long, that you can add fun effects to. It’s a feature Apple added to make your photos a little more interactive. You know… something you didn’t ask for.

That Sounds Fun… What’s The Problem?

The problem is that Live Photos are turned on by default on all iPhones, and most people aren’t aware of it.

You can convert a Live Photo into a regular still image in the Apple Photos app, but it’s easier to avoid this whole process by just taking a photo in the first place.

Did I mention that Live Photos take up more space than a photo?

How To Turn Live Photo Off

      • Open Camera.
      • Make sure you are in Photo mode.
      • Look for the Live Photo icon in the top right-hand corner. It looks like the sun (see image below). Tap the icon. The icon should now have a line through it.
      Turn Off Live Photo

Next, we need to ensure that Live Photos stays off.

        • On your iPhone, tap Settings.
        • Scroll down and tap Camera.
        • Tap Preserve Settings.
        • Scroll to the bottom and toggle Live Photos on.

        That’s it.
